TEN PARADOXICAL TRUTHS
* The overwhelming majority of evangelical believers will help the poor and needy much more through their taxes than they do personally.
* Many believers complain about their taxes going to the poor and needy but they support an increase in military spending.
* Jesus commanded His followers to pay taxes to the heathen and brutal Roman regime without qualifications or complaining.
* The love of money whispers in our ear that most poor and needy people live where they are and therefore do not deserve a handout.
* Our ancestors came here and eviscerated the indigenous people but we need to send anyone who is here illegally back to where they came from.
* Christians have received God’s grace without works but we demand some level of morality or work ethic before we show grace and generosity to others.
* If we could only transform the culture through legislation and political leverage we could enjoy Christ much better.
* We punish our children when they lie but we vote for lying adults.
* Everyone manipulates the Constitution to say what they want it to say, and much of the church embraces the same process with the Bible.
*Our statements of faith say that Jesus died to provide eternal life for sinners, but our actions suggest He died to force the Judeo-Christian ethic on hell bound sinners.
It seems like we are caught in a spiritual Groundhog Day. As Sonny and Cher once quipped, "The beat goes on...".
