Women of Impact

WOMEN OF IMPACT

Newsweek has come out with a list of “Women of Impact”. The list includes many women celebrities, sports figures, business figures, and of course political women. But I have my own list of women of impact. They are:

Mary (Bible)
Deborah (Bible)
Elizabeth (Bible)
Mary Magdalene (Bible)
Suzanna Wesley
Blandina
Harriet Tubman
Joni Ericson
Many more I have known personally.
And every mother who teaches her children of Jesus and lives a godly example before them.
There are more, but these shine bright for me. Can you add any?

I'd add Rebekah, Esau and Jacob's mom to your list:

And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren. And the Lord granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived. The children struggled together within her, and she said, "If it is thus, why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the Lord. And the Lord said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger." (Genesis 25:21-23 ESV)

and

Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game and bring it, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, "I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, "Bring me game and prepare for me delicious food, that I may eat it and bless you before the Lord before I die." Now therefore, my son, obey my voice as I command you. But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "Behold, my brother Esau is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to be mocking him and bring a curse upon myself and not a blessing." His mother said to him, "Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, bring them to me." (Genesis 27:5-8, 11-13 ESV)

How is it that it is impossible for God to lie yet God covers the lies of His elect and the Word cannot be broken?

I wouldn't do anything God has not first showed you to do!

And not only so, but also when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, our forefather Isaac, though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God's purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls— she was told, "The older will serve the younger." As it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated." (Romans 9:10-13 ESV)

Agree here with Cherie C. I never knew a woman who made a positive impact for others. And Amen for the woman of Proverbs 31.

Unfortunately, I have no elder woman to look up to to give me wise counsel. The people in my community, retirees all travel and buy retirements homes and golf and go to Florida for the winter. The christian elderly couples spend all their time with family. Those elderly women who depend on social assistance are hidden in the recesses of the church's mind. I can imagine that some here are having the same experience. This is the times we live in.

I sometimes have a bee in my bonnet, I confess, about my female peers, and I am working on that bad attitude with the Lord, Who is helping me daily. Thank you Jesus. Besides the few very good friends I had in the past, there are no women today, in my part of the world anyway, that have time to befriend, or fellowship, with those they aren't blood-related to, or those with whom they are only acquaintances. Today, women have little time on their hands because of their choices, they take on too much, and demand equal rights as men (even in the church) and want to seize opportunities like they think men do. So they want careers and challenges and can't juggle the home, children, career, church demands like they pretend they can. A woman who takes on that load can't be the woman of Proverbs if she is out working 40 hours a week and has a quiverfull of children, and is asked of church leaders to volunteer for this and that. The world that has infiltrated the church is putting so much pressure on women. Churches either teach to stay at home, or they teach women that they can have it all because they like the tithing money it brings. However, I do understand that in today's world, it's almost impossible for a couple to survive on just one income. So the world has wound it's tentacles around the family so much that the family can't be a true biblical family.

If a woman does choose to stay at home though, and if she relies on her husband's income alone, they are still expected to tithe and donate and give and give more.

If the Mary's and Debra's and Ruth's and Naomi's and other bible women had to become the over-achieving materialistic pet-love smothering cosmetic surgery altering gym-work-out-marathon-running, church presbyter, women's conference running, bible cruise-taking women that women have become today, they never would have had their names recorded in the Bible.

I know there a godly women out there. I just pray I can become one some day, and I pray I can run into one. Love you all here!!

I always used to end my e-mails to christian friends, "Hang on"!! - the Lord isn't finished with us yet!!

Lord, help me to have that faith again.

Joni Eareckson Tada was one of the first people who had a living faith that impacted me positively before God drew me to Christ. I've always been deeply moved by her phenomenal commitment to Lord Jesus Christ. Her radio ministry is a wonderful resource of uplifting and edifying material. It is always profoundly rewarding to listen to her MP3 collection and it always amazes me how she can speak such wisdom in one minute!

Joni has got a very warm hearted speaking and singing voice and writes and draws in a wonderful God glorifying way - additionally to this she has worked in the disabilty sector for four decades!

What a courageous compassionate servant of God Joni is. She is in my estimation a real champion of faith and love who God has continually blessed with courage and compassion.

I suppose there are a few out there, perhaps there are many - only God knows. The women from the bible are known to us because God chose to let us know about them. Celebrities are well known because the world promotes them, and the world's standards are not God's standards.

Corrie ten Boom, and her sister Betsy, who died in a concentration camp, are two women of godly influence. Corrie is my primary role-model and inspiration among women who were alive in my lifetime. Read anything you can find written by Corrie.

Corrie and her family influenced so many hundreds of people for Jesus in their lives, and continue to minister through Corrie's writings after they've gone to glory with their Beloved Lord.

Carmen (pastor's wife in our small fellowship) passed away yrs ago. She lived to read God's Word and was always positive. Also M'kayla Kelly of m'kayla's korner (a blog) & Brit Kjos of Kjos Ministries. Both women are good teachers of God's Word.

Wow, I am so sad to read so many statements from those who have no personal knowledge of a "woman of impact".

I have been impacted by many women; some in a Godly way - others not so much.

My own mother, while she was in no way a model example, taught me much about Biblical doctrine and prophecy.

I met a woman in my first job who influenced me very much from a professional standpoint.

My mother-in-law was (and is) a very Godly woman and brought about much maturity to my faith.

I am blessed today with five very close friends who all claim to know Christ and who are examples to me of love, sacrifice and what it means to work out my faith in fear and trembling. They are solid, trustworthy and always seek to speak the truth to me in love.

Even in the back stabbing world of real estate sales, I have been impacted by many women of faith whose lives were an example to me.

There are many women who have impacted my life - it seems to me it's all in how I look at it. Maybe I thought they were impacting me for bad at the time, but ultimately they impacted me because God intended it for His good.
