The Dead Need Life

A person lies dying in a hospital bed. What do you do? Do you make his bed more comfortable? Do you help to decrease his hospital bill? Do you educate him concerning his condition?

You know that only one medicine has been shown to make him healthy and whole once more, and you have that medicine. Do you take a vote of all the hospital doctors to see if the majority can agree on what to do? Do you listen to non-doctors who say that the patient needs bloodletting like our forefathers did? Do you give him medicine that makes him feel better but does nothing to keep him alive?

But now that same man dies. How do you resuscitate him? Do you wash his body? Do you change his bed sheets? Do you hold focus groups to see which segment of society agrees with you? Do you spend money to castigate others who do not agree with you? Do you attempt to change this dead man’s mind?

Sinners of all sorts are dead. Liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, Muslim, Jewish, Baptist, Catholic, and many, many other sinners from all sorts of genres are dead. They do not need their minds changed; they do not need their politics changed; they do not need their morals changed; they do not need the Taliban forced out of office; they do not need their fiscal policies changed. They are dead. They need life.

Jesus Christ came into this world, lived a sinless life, died on Golgotha, and rose from the dead to conquer death. He calls sinners to believe in Him so that they might have life, and life eternal. Dead sinners need the gospel, nothing more and nothing less.

I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.

Thank you Lord Jesus for giving this dead man life. It is well with my soul.
