Democracy in Action

From the news desk:

In Mississippi, abortion rights advocates scored a somewhat surprising victory as voters defeated Initiative 26, a proposed amendment to the state’s constitution that would have defined the word “person” to include every human being “from the moment of fertilization, cloning, or the functional equivalent thereof.”

You wanted democracy? You think God approves of democracy as His preferred governmental structure? How delusional to think that fallen man ruling himself is the divine prescription for the furtherance of God's kingdom. Such folly! This is not a war to outlaw sin; this is the eternal battle for the souls of men and ultimately the glory of God Almighty!

Does it surprise us that the world does not consider a fertilized egg as a person? Do they consider a growing baby within a mother's womb a person? And when they send a war drone into some obscure village, do they consider the boys and girls of that village as persons or as collateral? Even Pat Robertson claimed that if a person is comatose he or she is no longer a person and can be discarded like yesterday's garbage.

But the overarching question is not who is a person, but who is a soul for whom Christ died. Oh brothers and sisters, keep looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. We do not march to any ballot box, and our hopes do not rise and fall with the ebbs and flows of the political stream. How dare we mock Christ by suggesting this fallen world can be saved through moral legislation leveraged by voter registration and political clout. That besmirches the crimson sacrifice of our Dear Lord and does despite to the kingdom of God.

And the hoopla in Mississippi will not be the last. But we cannot afford to become distracted by all the earthly activity and the constant drone of news and information. We must derive all our news from above, and realize that the days are evil and His entrance draws nigh. And instead of moral outrage leveled at people like those in Mississippi, we must be moved with compassion. The darkness grows evey deeper and the eternal judgment that awaits them approaches with clandestine speed. Christ is their only hope, and we are His servants.

I hope and pray that all of us will continue to move away from the mirage of the temporal and move toward the Risen Christ!

What a perfect - and horrible - example of democracy in action!

The really sobering part is, the majority of us who thought that did so because it is what we were taught, by church leaders, and in my case 'christian school' teachers as well, firming up a whole system of false teaching on the subject, such that I could not see what the scripture really teaches for a long time. I had been taught to interpret it through the lens of patriotism, and failed to examine all things as the Word commands, holding rather to traditions of men. So it affected not only my understanding of some things, but tainted all things. And that is where the real danger is, I think, because along with the idea of us ruling ourselves, we were taught that God was using the United States 'benevolently' to spread His plan across the globe, and that this equated His kingdom come His will be done. Talk about manifest destiny! What a way to raise generation after generation of guaranteed voters who think they are doing the Lord's work, and lead a whole nation into fatal error! It's like a domino effect- you can't dogmatically hold to one part of falsehood, and not expect that it will not eventually poison the whole pot- a little leaven, as it were. If you follow this error through to it's conclusion, it is not hard to see how many will accept a one world 'democratic' plan of peace, prosperity, and religion globally, think it is 'christianity', and welcome a 'great leader' able to actualize the plan, and eventually call him christ (little c's on purpose). It is a recipe for final apostasy, for which the love of Truth is the only inoculation. Oh, how I tremble and earnestly pray for my brothers and sisters who are yet lost in this error. I am just one of many who now testify it is possible by His Grace to be corrected, but we must humbly receive it for what it is: His loving correction. "Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby." Correction is painful, and in this case, it can mean the pain of being ostracized, and even persecuted by those who will refuse it, which will include friends and family- so I pray also that we who are corrected will be humble and walk in love towards others in the process. Thanks for staying on this subject Rick. Lisa G.

Bless you, Lisa G., for saying that so clearly!
It is such a great reminder of how whenever the Lord opens our eyes to anything - whenever He corrects us - we need to be very humble about it.
But by the grace of God go we...
Thank God He has opened our eyes to the apostasy that had held us captive and I pray more eyes will be opened. We could so easily still be one of those in the dark about such things and we must remember to continue to love and have patience with those who cannot yet see.
