Discerning Gossip
Those “ online discerning” sites many times provide some helpful and even needed information about serious departures from gospel truth. I often read a few. But when they take secular news stories about some moral failure of some minister and publicize it, they have strayed from their calling and are now not much more than a National Enquire-esque gossip rag.
Of course I realize many cannot refuse the sensationalism and titillating facts provided by a second hand news outlet. That makes their story third hand, and it offers no edification to the readers. But it is indicative of what carnal readers desire and some are only too happy to provide such things, and especially if the minister that falls is not “one of their own”.
