Can You See Now?

If the present political spectacle hasn’t convinced you of the abject fallen uselessness of it all, perhaps nothing will. And there is a distinct phenomenon in human beings that lends itself to add to such a melee. When you have an allegiance to men and political persuasions, the mind automatically hears your team much more sympathetically and the other side much more critically. But when your allegiance is wholly given to the Lord Jesus Christ, then you can see things like politics for what they really are:

Fallen natures battling with other fallen natures. And there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that will cause the carnal fur to fly like money. Is there a fervor over abortion? Is there a raging conflict over states granting gay marriages? But let the subject be money and grown men will behave like high school bullies. I implore you once again, allow the Spirit to open your eyes to things that are not of God and His kingdom.

But do not stop there. Do not just renounce politics and claim you have done some great thing. But move forward diligently and seek the face of Christ and pray for all those who continue to waste time and effort in things that do not edify and are not redemptive. What fellowship has light with darkness? We are the light of the world, not to shine upon some legislative path, but to illuminate the Risen Christ in our mortal bodies and bring the gospel story to those who labor in fields of utter darkness.

Christ and Christ alone.
