The Worship of Man

THE WORSHIP OF MAN
in the
PLACE WHERE GOD SHOULD BE WORSHIPED

THIS IS THE STORY

If you gathered a congregation together and told them to make an idol but that they could not make a golden calf, what would be the next “best” thing? I believe the article reveals a level of idolatry which is breathtaking and blasphemy at its zenith. These people are going to spend many millions of dollars to immortalize men in stained glass windows in a chapel at a Southern Baptist seminary. Even if it was Wesley or Luther or Spurgeon it would be wrong, however these people are those who led the conservative fight within the SBC over the last twenty years.

You see, this is the doctrinal idolatry of which I have spoken. It is not worshiping the Lamb of God but it worships men who wear the “conservative” or “orthodox” moniker with human pride. They are not known for giving their lives like Jim Elliot or David Livingston or any of the martyrs. The men who will adorn the place of worship are those who present their Christianity on tablets of paper and then are lifted up as heroes of the faith. And while millions starve for food as well as the gospel, stain glass windows are being placed before the eyes of so called worshipers to the tune of many millions of dollars.

The chapel is named after a man and the place reserved for prayer is adorned with a woman’s name. And just why do these people have their name emblazoned upon places reserved for spiritual disciplines? It is because they were rich and donated money. This kind of blasphemy should make us tremble with fear because God’s cup of wrath must almost be filled. Just because it says it’s a seminary does not mean it teaches Jesus.

What can even be said? This kind idolatry goes beyond the normal car or house or clothes worship. This is Greek humanism brought right into the place of worship. And so called conservative Bible “scholars” believe this is right in God’s eyes? You can memorize the entire Bible, recite all the orthodox creeds, and be militant about the inerrancy of Scripture and still not be following the True and Living Christ. The end times are upon us. How much more can God take?

I read the comments at the end of the article and the majority agree with you on this.

Romans 16:17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.
:18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

I don't know whether to be mad or sad. Probably both. And some will say they deserve this honor and some will not care at all.

I just want to stare into space and not move this is so terrible. It makes me almost want to just give up.

    Sigh

Cherie you should not be either mad nor sad. What can we do? They have received their honor and it will not last for long. Think about the widow who put a penny into the temple treasury. She gave all that she had and God said she would receive more honors and blessings than those that gave millions of dollars.

These people even with all their degrees and education have forgotten to give honor to God for what they have. You will learn soon enough what their reward will be.

Remember it takes only a pebble to break glass. So if our Rock is Jesus what chance do their monuments have?

This just shows how easy it is to become a self-satisfied christian. Our flesh just keeps rising up and wanting to sit in high places. It's just in man to want to be rewarded on earth and put up on a pedestal in front of everyone else.

Most christians, hopefully, do overcome this temptation. But, for those who are rich, it is almost impossible. This is another example of the verse "it is easier for a rich man to go through the eye of a needle, than to enter heaven) (sorry, if I search that exact verse onl-line,, and leave this site, I lose it, I hope I quoted that scripture correctly.

"Rich" today in our culture is different than rich in the early church. The average rich people were fewer. Today, in the US, there are an increasing number of millionaires, young people are becoming savvy in how to earn money and depend on investments and the church follows and most pastors are richer than their flock. Pastors who are successful hang around rich people. The "Rich" spirit is an atmosphere that stifles what the Church should be about, the business of the Lord. It's written, "Deep calls unto deep". But, in the greedy atmosphere, greed calls unto more greed".

It's discouraging. And the world watches this, and unsaved souls, who otherwise might be saved, see this and run, figuring that the Gospel is another cult, a method to put men in power. It is Ezekiel 34, verse 20: "Therefore thus saith the Lord God unto them; "Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle." Because ye have thrust with side and wish shoulder and pushed all the diseased with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad, Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and cattle."

This refers to Israel's shepherds, who should have known better. Today, our shepherds should know better. I agree, how much longer can this go on?

Cherie, yes, ditto here as well for me. It almost makes me feel like there is no victory in living for Jesus. But I know the bible says there is, so it is.

I had a friend who usedchristian to say to me, "our walk is not about feelings", when I'd feel defeat. His Victory just is, even when I don't "feel" it, at times.

  6. People of God: This is pure paganism at its finest in the western "church." Our rebuke of
    "those others" in "foreign lands"
is now very lukewarm because when they see this pantheon of church
heroes, they will ask, and rightfully so, "why can't we have our images also around us when we worship?" Millions and millions for these stained glass windows so that the flesh can exult? Wow..what a loss. What a foolish waste of money. Imagine the number of missionaries those funds could have trained for their own in country service? The number of Bibles and hours of radio time that could have been bought to spread the gospel but yet these
"Christians" want to celebrate themselves in stained glass windows!
    Maranatha!

Very good comments from Joel and I loved Cherie's quote from scripture.

Yes, this is and will never be right in God’s eyes. When the heart of man is unclean he can quickly succumb and worship man.

Such people can still be saved but it is no easy journey for anyone who is so deceived.

    Blessings,

    James
