Yes, He suffered and died for all. He came to redeem the first time, so all sinners can repent, and be forgiven and believe on Him who sent Jesus. Be washed in His blood and be cleansed of all unrighteousness. But even Jesus told Mary Magdelin to "go and sin no more".
He came first to serve and save. The next coming will be to judge and punish those who didn't "go and sin no more".
When you have Pastors saying Jesus walked and talked with and ate with sinners, and not tell the entire Gospel about repentance, then he is misleading his church members. It is not one Scripture taken out of context and dismantled to fit an agenda. We need the whole counsel of God, which is His Word.
As the days grow darker, you will see less and less of these attacks, and more acceptance, as more lawlessness abounds.
Pastor Rick, I agree with your frustration with the scape goat of the moment, but didn't the Lord say it is better for you to be persecuted for doing good, then to be persecuted for doing evil? If this then is true, should we not expect this? Don't you see satan at work to keep you focused on issues like false christians attacking the world? This takes away from preaching the Gospel.
We are witnessing exactly what the Lord said would happen and although sad, even you said a few posts ago that the fight for truth is a double edge sword. Don't you think pastors twisting the Word and other heresies need just as much attention? People are being led astray and this is equally devastating. Wonder what would happen if some of God's people got together to pray about these issues. You know, A Prayer Meeting. I'm willing, but no one ever takes me up on the idea to make it happen. God's people should pray. A Peculiar people, an Holy Nation. What do Holy Nations do? They pray to the Living God, that's what makes us peculiar, we love God and the world does not. Just saying.
Cherie - repentance is turning from unbelief and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Turing from sin is the process of sanctification. A lost sinner cannot turn from sin until He receives the Holy Spirit after he believes. We are called to correct and reprove false teachers, but we are to be a gospel friend to sinners. That is my point.
I agree we need to love the homosexual but weren't all the great revivals caused by fire and brimstone preachers? Shouldn't we be warning of the wrath to come? Shouldn't we be pointing out evil behavior that leads to destruction? I know our first priority is to preach the gospel but I still think we need to be warning those around us. I struggle with this...
okay, I understand better now. I thought repentance was both. So sanctification is a process that will be complete when the Lord calls us up, correct. I hate it when my flesh rises up and I do that which I would not, and not that which I would. So it sometimes feels like a vicious cycle, and I grow weary.
Is this correct? Sometimes it seems like I live in a perpetual state of remorse, even regretting past sins.
To either correct me or clarify for me:
We tell people about Jesus' death, and then walk away and let the Holy Spirit take over? Is it that simple? Unbelievers don't believe they are sinners. Shouldn't we tell them they are? Didn't someone have to tell us we were sinners in order to understand the Gospel message? How do we balance this? How is this done? My husband does not read the Word of God yet says he knows God. He is the Pharisee in the temple with the publican saying all he does do right, but have not love or compassion for anyone else. When he puts down people like Tiger Woods for his transgressions, and I say to him, we were once them, he says no, he is better than him. I talk to him like he is saved hoping to encourage some kind of compassion or something, because I do not know any other way. I know he isn't saved and I should not be treating him like he is for that enforces his fallen attitude. How do I tell him anything? Even my atheist son doesn't think he is better than Tiger Woods. I am sincerely asking for help in understanding the right way to do this. Do we do as John the Baptist did and tell people to repent, the Kingdom of God is at hand, using the words I just wrote?
I really would like to know how to do this properly. The heart for lost sinners is there, the ability to talk to them is not. I do not want to do the wrong thing, and I noticed no one commented on doing a prayer meeting.
Matthew 18:19-20
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
We should be praying for the Lord to bring out His people from the visible church. When Jesus said when He returns will He find faith upon the earth, doesn't that also mean to find His people praying? Praying as the Body of Christ, His Bride? Please correct me if I am wrong. Peace and Love to you all.
Cherie - Sanctification is the process where we as believers are changed step by step into the image of Christ. It will be complete when we die or are taken up to be with Him. Lori - yes, much of the preaching was fire and brimstone, however they did not pick out one sin. They preached about sin in everyone's life, and they surely did not mock sinners or organize groups to pass legislation against a certain kind of sinner. And every great revival began with an unusual move of prayer. Who among us can say that is true today?
This is a one time action when one receives His Spirit. Does not say the Lord is sanctifying us but ye are sanctified.
1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you:but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Rick, you say a lost sinner cannot turn from sin until he receives the Holy Spirit after he believes. If that is true, then how do you explain about when Jesus told the woman caught in adultery to "go and sin no more?" Thanks, Jann
Why is it necessary to repeatedly crucify the flesh if we are to believe Galatians 5:24, "Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."? We have put on the new man. We are new creatures, 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. As Paul states, the flesh will always fight against the Spirit, as the two are at odds with each other. Galatians 5:17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
I think possibility the end of a society is the sin of homosexuality as in Sodom and Gomorrah being destroyed. Was that the reason they were destroyed? I don't think so but was probably the last straw that caused God's wrath.
Ezekiel 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
Many are frustrated as they see the downfall of society today and the self destruction of morals and society in general. The question to ask is how did we get to such a place today? The church no longer sets a righteous standard in the world today or is not salty. The homosexual lifestyle is so much against the natural God given desires it is hard for most to understand. Given the constant brainwashing of the media it is becoming much more accepted which is frustrating for many. What the many don't see is the sins in the church that led up to possibly the "final straw" before God's final judgement rains down on planet earth. We are indeed living in the very last days.
Very true Rick. IF they repent and turn from their wicked ways as any true believer must do.

ReplyDelete1 Corinthians 6:11

There is the positional sanctification (set apart) and there is the process that crucifies the flesh and presses toward the mark.

Thank you, Rick. I love your answer.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I was not clear. Many lost sinners give up certain sins, but true spiritual repentance can only come from the Spirit within a true believer.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it necessary to repeatedly crucify the flesh if we are to believe Galatians 5:24, "Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."?

Galatians 5:17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Well, Shannon, if you do not struggle with the flesh you have arrived.
