Two Different Systems
The world’s system: When marines kill Afghanistan soldiers - praise. When marines urinate on their dead bodies - punishment. (Irony alert?) The system of Christ: Do not render evil for evil. And now you have a choice.
There's actually conservative backlash on the issue of urinating on the corpses. They're essentially saying "War's hell; they deserved it; they're our boys".
Yep, it's really quite disturbing. They say, "Turn the other Cheek, but that doesn't mean you let someone slap you around".
Reminds me of Kierkegaard's statement on the New Testament and certain schools of scholars:
"Take any words in the New Testament and forget everything except pledging yourself to act accordingly. My God, you will say, if I do that my whole life will be ruined. How would I ever get on in the world? Herein lies the real place of Christian scholarship. Christian scholarship is the Church’s prodigious invention to defend itself against the Bible, to ensure that we can continue to be good Christians without the Bible coming too close. Oh, priceless scholarship, what would we do without you? Dreadful it is to fall into the hands of the living God. Yes it is even dreadful to be alone with the New Testament."
The western church boasts in its literal interpretation of the Bible. And then they take the Sermon on the Mount and made it a treatise on situational ethics.

ReplyDeleteMore and more I feel I live in Ancient Rome.
What is undigestible, is that some of those conservatives claim to be followers of Christ.
