A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. Thank y...I'd never heard it put in such a way. Thank you, Bro. Rick. It is extremely important, and I need to be constantly reminded of this, that 'doing' or even quoting scripture to someone, has to be done in a servitude atttitude, otherwise it might feel like berating someone with the Word.

I remember there were two kinds of christians, who came to me and witnessed to me. There were some, who meant well, but quoted scripture more like it was a textbook command and spoke in a condescending manner. The other kind were the ones who really listened, and offered encouraging scripture first, and when I saw how good and wonderful God was, that He would even care about every detail of our lives and soul, that I reached out further, and when I was ready, these good teachers (with living examples) would bring the meatier Word. And they presented the gospel WITH love.

Isn't it true that we may have at one time quoted the Word in anger, or in justification to make us feel better, or as a weapon. I know this isn't the point that Rick made here, but it reminded me of how holy God's word is, and it does have power, and it's precious and sometimes people just forget how precious it is, and use it as a tool of manipulation to made one feel guilty. I've been on the receiving end of this and it set me back so much, that I was afraid to even reach out to God. This all, of course, before I was saved.

J.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27942026.post-91717862255239365452013-10-31T12:55:56.082-05:002013-10-31T12:55:56.082-05:00Thank you, Steve. What does this parable mean? I would...Pastor Rick,

What does this parable mean? I would like to test to see if what it means is the same as what I think it means. I have an idea, but a website I visited seems to say the opposite. Thank you for this teaching. What a POWER (Spirit)-ful me...Brother, thank you ! What a POWER (Spirit)-ful meditation !!!! It is meat for any who hear God's voice in your words.

These sentences particularly hit me:

"We are called to adorn the teachings of Jesus through the inward and outward expressions of our lives."

"Because the Spirit has been reduced in some evangelical quarters to the spectacular and the sensational, His profound and life changing power has all but been ignored."

"...it is that same Spirit which can take our humble service to Christ and allow it to adorn His truth and magnify His Person. That...will redound to the glory of God throughout eternity!"

"Even the smallest act of spiritual service must be done in the Spirit and the moment we take a molecule of credit it withers and dies."

"And this service, completely accomplished within the grace of God, is presented as a living sacrifice and in a miracle and a mystery the Spirit adorns Christ’s eternal truth with our surrendered service. Can there be any greater miracle than that...?"

"...how many actually humbly and with brokenness seek to walk and live inside the Holy of Holies?...But walking in His presence and by the power of His Spirit is the life to which we are called."

"...if you feel a sense of hunger and thirst; and if you feel there is more than just an outward church practice; and if you know you feel a holy discontent with your own situation; then God is more than willing to take your surrender and self denial and adorn the teachings of His Risen Son. A miracle you say? A mystery you suggest?...It soars above anything we can ask or think, and it is all to His glory and His glory alone!"

Each will be a starting-point for my own meditation...may it adorn Him Who rules forever !

In Jesus, Steve

Stevenoreply@blogger.com
